Avro Arrow Roll-out

This week, a replica of the

Avro Arrow CF-105 will be rolled out in Toronto.

This 1957 jet fighter could challenge many current military aircraft.

Yet the Conservative Diefenbaker government of Canada not only cancelled the programme, but destroyed all planes & hardware.

This full sized plane can be towed but not taxied. Attempts are being made in western Canada to create a flying piloted 2/3 model.

What survives of the original plane is the cockpit & part of a wing in Ottawa, the mark one engine & mark II Iroquois engine -
I think in Hamilton, Ottawa & a research station in England.

There is a legend that one Arrow escaped the ordered destruction. This week's replica may in our imaginations be the one
that got away.,
