Further standard dvd blu-ray matches

I have just purchased Neil Young's latest cd/dvd
package. 22 minutes of full motion video with 24/96
pcm stereo. There are also 38 minutes of 24/96
with a looping screensaver,

I wonder if he could manage one hour of 24/96
with full motion video. I have 2 Chesky disks
that do that.

I also bought Crank in standard
format

which has pip (bonus view)
Ironic that standard dvd's are now doing what
Blu-ray had promoted as features.

It's still 1982

The computer I am using to post this was produced in
1982. There was no web at that point, but I
was using the internet with my vic--20.
We sent e-mail around the world using fidonet-
in my case through k-12 net.

Although until Mosaic I might not have been able
Control text appearance, much of what I did via e-mail
then, I can do now.

In some ways it is regrettable that the net did
not stay text centric- if we assume that print assumes
a particular way of thinking. for example thehypothesis
that the invention of perspective required the development of
the printing press.

And how might the C=64 have evolved if text had dominated.

Pan and Scan on the Fly

I am watching two standard dvd's that allow selection
of wide screen or pan and scan on the fly- part of the
dvd design parameters. There is only one film
on the disk, but either format can be selected
by the player.

Almost no dvd's use this feature, yet I have two French, one Canadian
one South African and one British disks that use
this feature.

So to pip, 24/96 pcm stereo we can add pan & scan
on the fly as dvd features that are virtually
unused
