Difficulties getting Technical Info

Yesterday a sales person (albeit for phones) at a Futureshop assured me
that Ipod Touches could not have their operating systems upgraded. "Only
Iphones". Even though a customer said she thought she had upgraded her
touch.

Googled sites seem to disagree,

On a parallel note, I have been told by someone my age that he is typing
on his Ipod with a usb connected keyboard. The net disagrees.

Futureshop has a bluetooth dock for a usb keyboard.
Not clear how all this fits together.

Computer purchase

Tonight I order a new computer. Terrified. Lenova Thinkpad. Not sure of criteria to use.
Speed and memory size, but multi-core
Separate sound & video cards
Screen criteria- refresh rates/

Peripherals to also order? Mouse, bluetooth keyboard- or after
TV tuner for cable or after?

Do I really need a solid state drive?

Problems with Hubble Imax

Hubble is 3D in sense of depth, not roundness.

tFlat objects are separated from each other by depth, but there is no 3D for each object. The video footage has been left with a grain & wash-out that could have been improved. The long starfield sections appear to be computer generated.
Much of the imagery could have been shot two decades ago
and then adjusted in a computerto look like the current movie. They could have done much better.

Web scalability

Colour can be coded for blogger but it does not show with my Links browser. I can force green by using italics. It is not clear whether leftrightcenter are all supported
So a limited amount of html markup allows me to format for reading by any platform.

Further practice

Green is generated by italics or bold markup but not by underlined or strikeout markup. So and should both be green. Normal colour is not available.

Reflections on Girl Who

Switching points of view third person, but of rotating individuals.
Vocabulary same level for all characters, except some swear more. As
noted in some reviews, a great deal of detail, especially product
placement. Problem with quoting computer names, that quicly they become

Saw Inception in Imax or rather usean Imax screen. After reading about camera siz
es used, will watch again. As with Nolan's last Batman movie, key action scenes are projected large format- 65 mm instead of 35 mm. Good use of screen size and vertical sound. Also at times used high speed camera for slow motion. The Girl Who series from Sweden is 3 books. Read them slowly, details are important with tthis writer. The movie in Swedish is a blu-ray/dvd combination. Few features. Will wait until second hand. Colour: not sure what I have forgotten about red as a colour code

system if I dowmload it to my sd card. All I have used it for sofar is to read The Sign of the Four on the led screen. I have also bought a wi-fi card for the sd slot which will store pictures and automatically upload images to the net without using a computer.

The wi-fi tests will wait. I need more CHDK experience first.

Mods to Canon 540 Camera

I have been able to modify my use of my digital camera.
These changes came from using my sd
memory card for special features- with the special
card -by downloading a new CHDK operating system to it so I can make manual automatic settings, and by purchasing a wi-fi sd card separately. The wi-fi experiments will have to wait, although with CHDK, I have been reading The Sign of the Four on my 2 1/2" screen.

I have for a few months used the above media player. 1.9 " screen is small for pictures but okay for video. Plays winmedia files, mp3 & flac upto cd quality (16/44), but not dvd (16/48). The radio fm only, allows wav recording and presets and scanning.


Lists are possible for sound files and video- a single go list each. Photos can be played as a slide show from a single list.

The volume is low, unless the environment is silent. I could not hear it with passive phones on airplane first class. With my SRS headphones, no problem- but too large for convenient travel.

It accepts an external microsd card and any pictures placed in it by a camera.




So a computer free operation would entail taking pictures to the card from a camera, recording memos directly, and capturing radio to wav files. A radio sdmicro card can be bought that is packed with 1000 mp3's of well known songs.
