24/96 Survives
Since dvd's began, a few disks have allowed 24/96 pcm analogue output-a dvd standard.
Companies such as Classic Records, Chesky Hi-Res & Aix produced "dad's" which provided sound
that came in 24 bit depth 96 times a second, as opposed to 16/44 for cd's & 16/48 for standard dvd's.
Monster Cable now has about 4 dvd's that include the 24/96 option- including a Ray Charles disk. Neil Young has released a "Superstereo" 24/96 disk of his greatest hits.
Since dvd-audio & sacd disks require special players for their 24/96 output, perhaps there is a second chance for 24/96 pcm- which requires no special equipment beyond a dvd player.
The only recording company I am aware of that still produces disks with 24/96 pcm is Aix Records
